A Path to Blessings!
There’s a beautiful promise for every believer: God’s favor. While often it’s easier to focus on daily challenges, remembering that we are continually surrounded by God’s favor brings life-changing perspective and comfort. We all yearn for that extra measure of grace, the blessing that goes beyond human effort—a blessing that can only come from a loving Father.
What is God’s Favor?
God’s favor is an outpouring of His kindness, a special grace that grants us what we could never earn or deserve on our own. Scripture reminds us of this constant truth. Psalm 5:12 declares, “For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor, You will surround him as with a shield.” Just like a protective barrier, His favor shields us and makes a way even where there seems to be no way.
To walk in God’s favor is to walk in confidence, knowing that He’s with us, fighting our battles, and paving paths for our good. It’s more than just receiving blessings; it’s about experiencing His faithfulness in unexpected places.
Seeing Favor in the Everyday Moments
Sometimes, favor might look like protection from something we cannot see. Imagine you’re running late for work. You’re frustrated, but then, on your way, you see a major accident that happened moments before you would have passed. Was that delay a hindrance, or was it God’s favor keeping you safe?
Or perhaps you’re in search of a new job, applying everywhere without success. Then suddenly, the perfect position opens, one that pays better and is closer to home. This “chance” occurrence is often God working behind the scenes, aligning circumstances to bring about something greater than we could arrange on our own.
Favor in the Life of Mary and Joseph
One of the most beautiful examples of favor is found in the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus. When the angel appeared to her, he said, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God” (Luke 1:30). In finding favor with God, Mary was chosen for a divine purpose. But her journey wasn’t easy. This favor didn’t exempt her from hardships—it prepared her to overcome them, just as God’s favor empowers us to navigate our challenges.
Like Mary, sometimes we’re called to walk through situations that may be uncomfortable or uncertain, but God’s favor provides us with the strength and courage to continue. Just as God was with Mary, He’s with us, guiding, supporting, and blessing us.
How to Embrace and Cultivate God’s Favor
If you’re seeking God’s favor, here are a few ways to cultivate an awareness of it in your life:
- Prioritize His Presence: God’s favor is often poured out in moments of intimacy with Him. Spending time in His Word and in prayer aligns our hearts with His and keeps us open to His blessings. Proverbs 3:3-4 says, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you… Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
- Walk in Obedience: Obedience opens doors to blessings. In Psalm 84:11, we’re told, “For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Following His guidance attracts favor into our lives.
- Serve Others Selflessly: Sometimes, God’s favor comes to us when we’re focused on helping others. When we extend kindness, generosity, and compassion, we often find that doors of blessing swing open for us as well.
Living with Expectation
Believing in God’s favor is about having a heart that expects His goodness, even in the small things. In the book of Isaiah, God says, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” (Isaiah 55:8). His favor may not always appear how we expect it, but it’s always there, working out the details of our lives in a way that reveals His love.
Take a moment today to reflect on the blessings around you. Ask God to open your eyes to His favor and thank Him for His goodness. Walking in God’s favor is about celebrating His love, trusting His guidance, and allowing His blessings to overflow into our lives and into the lives of others. As you do, you’ll begin to see His grace and favor in ways that will continually strengthen your faith, inspire your heart, and renew your spirit.
Embrace God’s favor—it’s His gift to you, and it has the power to transform not only your life but the lives of everyone around you.
