Embracing the Power of God’s Anointing!
I know a lot of us have often heard about God’s anointing—a divine empowerment given by God to fulfill a unique purpose. Anointing is a powerful gift that goes beyond our own abilities, enabling us to impact the world around us in ways we couldn’t achieve alone. But there’s something we often overlook: anointing isn’t just about power; it’s also about positioning. To be used by God, we need to be in the right place—spiritually, mentally, and sometimes even physically—to allow His purpose to flow through us.
The Anointing of David: Chosen but Positioned
One of the most inspiring examples of divine anointing is David’s story. When the prophet Samuel came to anoint Israel’s next king, he was led to a small, rural town and to the house of a humble shepherd (1 Samuel 16:1-13). David was out tending sheep, showing dedication and humility in his everyday work. Yet when he was called, he was ready. This is crucial: David’s anointing didn’t automatically make him king. He had to walk through years of preparation, staying faithful to God, even in caves, battles, and trials. David was positioned in God’s timing, not by his own ambition.
David’s journey teaches us that the path to fulfilling God’s purpose requires waiting, obedience, and trust in God’s timing. When we try to rush the process, we often find ourselves out of position, blocking the very anointing we seek.
Being Positioned for Purpose
The anointing flows where God directs it, and when we’re out of place, we hinder that flow. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” This submission is often uncomfortable because it requires us to yield our plans, preferences, and sometimes even our talents to God’s direction.
Imagine a river: its current is strong, but if you want to benefit from it, you have to be within the flow. God’s anointing is like that. When we’re aligned with His will, we’re in position for His power to work through us.
Jesus: The Ultimate Example of Positioned Anointing
Jesus Himself exemplified perfect alignment with God’s purpose. Before starting His ministry, He was baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit, positioned in obedience to God’s timing (Matthew 3:13-17). For 40 days, He fasted and resisted temptation in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13). He understood that the power He had wasn’t for Himself but to bring freedom, healing, and truth to others.
Jesus later declared in Luke 4:18-19, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor…” His anointing had a purpose—every miracle, parable, and act of compassion was aligned with God’s greater plan for salvation.
Stay in Alignment to Keep the Flow of Anointing
Sometimes we feel anointed for a particular task, only to be pulled away by distractions or doubt. But staying positioned requires faithfulness even when the path isn’t clear. When we remain where God has called us to be, whether it’s serving in the local church, helping a neighbor, or leading a business with integrity, we create space for God’s anointing to work through us.
Psalm 92:10 says, “But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.” The psalmist acknowledges that anointing can be renewed, but it requires staying in the presence of God. When we seek Him regularly, praying, reading His Word, and obeying His voice, we are refreshed and ready for His anointing to flow continuously.
Embrace Your Position and Trust His Purpose
In a world that urges us to chase after personal ambitions, remember that true fulfillment comes from aligning with God’s call and receiving His anointing for that purpose. If we allow God to position us—no matter how humble, challenging, or unexpected the place may be—we’ll experience His power in ways that go beyond our natural abilities.
Like David, Jesus, and many other men and women of faith, we must be willing to follow God’s lead, allowing His anointing to work through us. So, whether you’re in a season of preparation or stepping into your purpose, stay positioned, stay faithful, and watch how God uses you to fulfill His purpose on earth.
“Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).
This assurance reminds us that God’s anointing is powerful and purposeful—and He will always empower us to fulfill the calling He has placed on our lives.
