Road Rage

Get Out The Gutter!

Have you ever been riding in a car with someone and all of a sudden they are yelling at almost every driver on the road and criticizing everyone’s driving skills? They seem to get so furious at every little thing? Small things such as lane access and speed limits, merging and parking will get them so upset that their whole day is ruined. Or are you the driver with really bad road rage? Are you the one that allows other people’s driving to get up so upset that you forget who you are and come out of character? You might feel perfectly fine when you get in the car, but as soon as someone cuts you off in traffic, you become a whole different person, a person you are not proud of. Road rage can be very dangerous to you and those around you and doesn’t help things at all! No matter how upset you get, you are not going to change how someone else (whom you’ll probably never see again) drives! The only thing you are doing is making matters worse and making yourself so upset over something you can’t change! Calm down! We have to be careful not to let someone else’s behavior or driving skills push us into the “gutter”….

Same goes for our spiritual driving! Sit back, relax, and allow God to do the driving. We get on this spiritual journey and allow other people’s driving distract us, take us out of character, push us and our thought process into the gutter so much so that it’s hard to get back on track! Why do we do this to ourselves? Why not relax and allow God to do the driving on the road to our destiny and purpose in Him? Why do we feel that we have to be in control? If we allow God to take control of the wheel, then we could be more relaxed and experience the fullness of joy that the Bible talks about. We would experience the peace that God wants us to have if we would just allow Him to do the driving!

We often can’t control the people or things that happen in our lives, but we can ask God to help us change the way we react to them. We can ask God to help us not to respond to people and situations from a place of judgment, knowing it all, and general superiority. We can ask God to direct our path and not allow others to speak destruction into our lives or push us into a spiritual gutter! God gives us the power to change our atmosphere, so why not do it instead of staying stuck where we are or allowing others or situations to keep pushing us where we don’t want to be!

God grants us the power to change our atmosphere by accepting the things we cannot change. That doesn’t mean tolerating them with rolling your eyes or doing it grudgingly, but accepting that things are the way they are and knowing and trusting that God is in control so we can respond the way God would want us to respond. This comes with having humility!

Sit back and relax and allow God to do the driving! He knows all and sees all and he cares about you! Allow Him to give you the peace that surpasses all understanding and the fullness of joy that will take you to your destination without being stuck in life’s gutter!

Don’t allow road rage to keep you bound! Get out of the gutter!
