When You Dream

What Does It Mean

Have you ever had a dream that you remember and wondered what does it mean? Did you ask God to reveal to you the meaning of your dream and you heard nothing in return? I know I have and it was so frustrating not knowing what the dream meant! I would get angry wondering why God would give me a dream or vision but not tell me what it means! We may not fully know what the dream meant but we can sense when it is important.

When you wake up from a dream and the impression of the dream is so strong that you try to remember the entire dream, you should write it down and ask God for wisdom in interpreting the dream. God sometimes communicates with us through our dreams. In the Bible, the prophet Jacob had dreams of angels going back and forth from heaven to earth on what is known as Jacob’s ladder. This was encouragement to a man that was very discouraged. He needed God to encourage him and let him know that He was there with him.

What is it that you need from God? What are you battling about within, or is God trying to get your attention to save you from a big mistake? Our faith in God and our willingness to hear Him puts us in a position for God to communicate with us. God may communicate with us to inspire us, to warn us, to comfort us, heal us from past hurt, give us peace and much more. God is always communicating  with us and you may hear from him while you’re awake, as well. But during sleep, you’re more likely to pay attention to whatever God is trying to tell you, because you’re relaxed and therefore less likely to be distracted. Also, your subconscious mind is open to all information. Your conscious mind may discard valuable information because of stress, biases, or negative emotions such as fear or anger. But your subconscious mind is constantly open to learning something new.

Pay attention to what you see, hear, and feel in your dreams. Record what you remember about them soon after you wake up and pray about them. You may find that God will open your understanding to what he is really communicating to you.

I dream quite often and while people used to tell me to write it down, I never did. Now I have realized that God’s communication with me is very important and even though I may not always understand what the dreams meant, God would give me wisdom and knowledge in His timing but if I don’t write it down it is hard for me to recall my dreams months later therefore losing what God was communicating to me. How could I be so frivolous with God’s communication with me! If God is the center of my life and I put Him first, then why am I so careless with our communication?

We should commit ourselves to being mindful of how we handle our relationship with God! We need to communicate with him more by praying and seeking His face. When He communicates with us, whether through dreams and visions or in our ear gates while we are awake, we need to take it seriously and record it and go to God in prayer for it’s meaning. When He reveals the meaning to you, whether it is immediate or years away, you will be ready to receive it. Open up your communication with God and develop the relationship with Him that He is waiting for so that you hear Him clearly!
